Bloggers Help Promote Mothers Sanity

by Joyce Martin

Thank goodness some still want to be mothers, right? Not only does this keep the species going, it makes the best case scenario for children (a viewpoint supported by massive research!). However, the state of motherhood can be a trying time for women. Keeping a mothers sanity is important to society as a whole. The internet has brought a whole new sort of support group - the mommy blog.

Although problems tend to differ based on circumstances, there are many common concerns. A stay-at-home mother may feel more cut-off from adult life than one who works outside the home. However, a working mother may hurry home and devote herself to housework and 'quality time' (if she has the energy) with her child. Neither of these women have time for friends unless they are in the same play group. It doesn't help when society tends to minimize the contribution a mother makes.

For this woman, a blog may provide company. It may help keep her in touch with others who are doing the same thing she is or are living in a way that's completely different. A skillful writer of an internet post can certainly provide encouragement and reinforcement, stressing the importance of what homemakers are doing and helping them stay relevant.

A single mother may feel that she has more problems than those who have a husband and provider. However, she may be overlooking strain of pleasing a demanding spouse as well as keeping kids happy and the house clean. It's true that we all have our own burdens to bear.

Single women may feel better if they read about the problems married women face. They may also feel like telling them to walk a mile in their shoes, day after day after day. Many women who absolutely have to work feel guilty about putting their children in daycare. They may also come home tired to face kids wanting attention and dinner and more. A blog may address this, or the comment section may give them a forum to 'tell it like it is'.

No matter the circumstances, it is true that mothers tend to be isolated. Their former friends may be putting a career ahead of starting a family or may be too busy on the singles scene to want to hang out. A mom may feel she has little to talk about when they do get together. A blog can be an undemanding way to share, however virtually, with others who face the same problems and have the same concerns.

Even the comment section can be a release. A reader may find that the blogger seems to have it all together but other readers feel as discontented or unequal to the task as she does. Honest discussions can arise online that are as interesting as those conducted with friends over cups of coffee.

Women can find numerous blogs online and find one that suits them and their situation. A virtual coffee clatch or touchy-feely group can mean a lot to someone who has no other outreach, especially at the random moments she may find herself with some precious free time.
