The Finished Wood Flooring Installation Ideas

When considering a new wood floor for your home or place of business, the endless choices of wood flooring is perplexing and overwhelming. With colors, stains, finishes and styles only a small part of the selection process, selecting materials for uniquely finished wood flooring involves conducting hours of research to formulate conclusions based on the information gathered.

Not too long ago, the only choice you had was the old-fashioned solid timber tongue and groove strips in maple or oak. Today, flooring can be planks from old barns, exotic timbers, pre-finished engineered timber strips which eliminate the dust and disruption of finishing on site. You even can have laminate flooring, which isn't timber but looks like timber at a much lower cost.

If your surface cover is destined for a medium to heavy use location (such as a workplace, a busy family kitchen or a frequently-used hallway), then it'd probably be most cost effective to opt for laminate flooring. This would offer a good level of protection and last through time. The alternative would be a high-end real timber floor surface solution. The pricier timber floors are far better than even the best laminate products, but cost that much more - and a low-end engineered wood floor simply wouldn't suffice for a scenario like this.

Structures constructed over 100 years or more were built with the finest timber available during this time era, materials that cannot be purchased at any home improvement or lumber liquidator outlet anywhere for any price. Of such timber, American Chestnut was primarily used and readily available in yesteryears for durability of which has since become "extinct."

Virtually all engineered wood cover is pre-finished, and usually comes with the V grooves mentioned earlier. Some cannot be refinished because that top veneer is too thin. Others can be - once or twice. It depends on the top layer, which can be anything from 1/12" to 1/4" depending on the manufacturer. In the end, this tiling costs about as much as solid surface, and the only advantage (in my opinion) is that you can "float" it on concrete.

Although somewhat more expensive than regular laminated engineered timber surface, reclaimed engineered floor has received positive reviews from individuals that have purchased and installed this "span of history" floor with complete satisfaction and overall strong recommendations. As time passes, advanced technology of today will become antiquated, obsolete and eventually forgotten.

Over the past several years, many manufacturers have included exotic woods in their lines to meet growing popularity. Some of these exotic looks are even available in laminate surface. In solid planking, exotic woods can cost twice as much as comparable domestic species, although engineered timber remain closer to the domestic hardwoods.

Environmentally friendly woods reclaimed and used in the production of antique flooring once destined for permanent elimination, saves the environment with reusable, salvageable materials that often was left to decay or placed in already over-flowing landfills. With no trees cut or affected in the reclaiming process, the eco-friendly patina of antique floors speaks of times past, times of uncertainty with rebellion and lawlessness, as a nation struggled to advance into the next century.
