Basic Information About Cleveland Drywall Corporations

Drywall also goes by other names including wallboard, gypsum board, and plasterboard. It refers to a panel made up of gypsum plaster placed between two thick paper sheets. This material started being manufactured because it was seen as a faster alternative to the conventional lath and plaster. There are many companies involved in the production and marketing of this product on a global scale. Although producers are many <a href="http://www.cadillacwallspainting.com">Cleveland drywall</a> producers produce some of the best products on the market.
Rochester, Kent is where the first company to produce plasterboard was incorporated in 1888. Sacket board was the precursor to drywall and its invention was done by Augustine Sackett and Fred Kane. From the time of invention of plasterboards, they have evolved a lot and the product in use today has been refined to a high degree.
The US Gypsum Corporation bought out Sackect Plaster Board Company in 1910. They produced another commodity called Sheetrock in 1917. Sheetrock was easier to install and its fire resistance capability is very high. The invention of air entrainment technology resulted in plasterboards becoming lighter and less brittle. Joint treatment treatments and materials also underwent further evolution.
Plasterboard comprises of gypsum plaster placed between two paper layers. During production, raw gypsum is heated and then slightly re-hydrated to generate the hemihydrate. The plaster that results is combined with fiber and other substances to produce specific qualities. Among the material added are foaming agents, plasticizer, fine crystals of gypsum, EDTA, retarder, wax emulsion, and other additives.
All materials added into gypsum plays a specific role within the mixture itself and the resultant product. Starch functions as a retarder, fine gypsum crystals function as accelerator, other additives function to reduce mildew and offer fire resistance, and wax emulsion reduce absorption of water. The resultant mixture is wet and it is covered with fiberglass or heavy paper sheets on either side. Hardening and drying is done in a drying chamber to make it sufficiently hard for building.
Drywalls have several uses in homes. First, they are often used to reduce sound transmission between rooms or from outside. When used for this purpose, several layers of drywalls may be glued together to achieve soundproofing. There are also specifically designed plasterboards that are used for soundproofing. Achieving better noise insulation may require specific construction details to be followed too. The include insulation, double studding, wider stud spacing, and using steel studs among others.
The materials wallboards are manufactured from make them very sensitive to water. They are destroyed when they come in contact with it. They soften upon contact with water and when immersed for long, they turn into a gooey paste. Mold starts to grow when there is moisture. Mold growth is encouraged because additives and paper facings added into the plasterboard provides a good source of food.
Disposing used drywall has always been a problem because the material is often not recycled. Dumping of plasterboards has also been banned in some landfill sites. The most suitable disposal method is to return to the manufacturer to have the material recycled into new boards.
